Origins:
XTERRA was born in 1996 in a race that was called Aquaterra in Maui, Hawaii. Originally a race consisting of an open ocean swim, mountain biking and trail run it melded the mountain biking and triathlon communities together.

Think of XTERRA racing as an off-road triathlon. Distances vary depending on available terrain.
