Stinky Shoe Remedy #013 – My Doc Martens Stink!
PROPOSED HOME REMEDY
I love my Doc Martens, but neither pair are styles that go with socks. And those thin little “no show” socks didn’t help the problem. My feet really don’t usually stink much, but every time I wear Docs they get stinky. Baking soda didn’t work, Odor eaters powder didn’t work, spraying my feet with deodorant didn’t work, bags of kitty litter didn’t work, and if I put these expensive leather shoes in the washing machine, I might as well throw them away!

Ahh, so the offending culprits are Doc Martens. Shoes designed to be worn SOCKLESS (so we know Home Remedy #005 – Wear Socks?!? won’t work). Hmm.
Going sockless leaves the shoe ultra vulnerable to stink as all that sweat goes right into the fabric of the shoe, where it creates a warm, moist and dark habitat for odor-causing bacteria to create their own little paradise. I certainly can empathize with Ella and her frustration with having tried those (4) home remedies with no apparent success. (We have yet to comment on any of them, so keep tuned to that later).
I’m a pretty optimistic guy, but I’m starting to see how once your shoes stink, you’re in for the fight of your life to undo the process (if it’s even possible). We’ve got a whole slew of more home remedies to investigate, so I’m not throwing in the towel just yet.
Instead, let me offer a word of advice. Don’t let your shoes stink in the first place! Keep them dry. Use Stuffitts Shoe Savers (or for that matter, ANYTHING, but just be sure to dry those shoes!).
