Boric acid! The odor comes from bacteria digesting the sweat and skin flakes you shed in your shoes. Sure, keeping clean absorbent socks on will help, but many kinds of shoes can’t be worn with socks.

Scrub shoes out with soapy water. Rinse and let air dry. Poor some Listerine in a spray bottle and spray the insides of shoes well and let air dry. Shoes will smell extremely fresh!

When I was a kid, finding a cure for my smelly shoes was the least of my worries. I would jump in puddles, mud, and get them dirty without a care in the world. At the end of the day, let’s just say they didn’t smell like roses…and I really didn’t mind.
